LUMA-iD has released its call for entries to the LUMA Blueprint 2018 invention competition, for product ideas of any nature. LUMA Blueprint is open for entries by anyone with an idea that will make people’s lives better with few limitations beyond that. Anyone can enter, so long as it is a useful innovation and hasn’t been done before. The prize totals £2,000 of product development, including £1,000 of industrial design time from LUMA-iD. Winners will also get £500 worth of 3D printed prototypes. Other prizes are available as well.

LET’S CEE Film Festival is inviting filmmakers to apply for its annual Short Film Competition for 2018, themed: Together or Apart. Eligible to participate are filmmakers up to the age of 35 from Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus region, Turkey and Austria. Not only are two main prizes of 1,500 Euro waiting to be won, moreover, ten finalists will receive an invitation to participate in the second edition of the LET’S CEE Talent Academy in Vienna.

Domés International Review of Architecture, launches the International Design Competition COOK8 to discover the New Dining Place. The aim of the competition is the formulation of new ideas on the design of a meeting-place for people on the occasion of the preparation and consumption of food as means of socialization. COOK8 is a competition about an interior dining space for 8 people, where the three awarded entries will be built in real scale (1:1), at the Benaki Art Museum, Athens, Greece. These three entries will also be awarded with 2,000 Euro, each.

The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announce the call for entries for its 2018 Grants competition, for student and professional visual journalists. Grants are awarded to help the production of projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant. Submissions must have a set of still photographs, but you may also submit other story forms — including audio, video, VR or any other visual format. One grant of $20,000 for the production of a proposed project will be awarded in the Professional category. The first place winning undergraduate and graduate entrant in the Student category will both receive a grant that is equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University, plus a cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work.

The Society of Publication Designers (SPD) is calling for entries for Game of Golds – their 53rd international competition for best editorial design. SPD welcomes entries from a diverse range of consumer print publications, independent magazines, custom published magazines, trade and educational magazines; as well as their app, mobile and web platforms. All entries that score high enough to make it to the second round of judging, will be included in the PUB 53 Annual. During this second round, judges vote for the Gold Awards for Excellence, the Silver Awards for Distinctive Achievement, and the finalists for Website of the Year, Video of the Year, Brand of the Year, and Magazine of the Year. The list of finalists for print and digital categories will be announced in March 2018.

The Society for News Design (SND) has opened its annual Best of Digital Design Competition, for the best digital stories and products from 2017. The goal of the competition is to identify the best of journalism that pushes the boundaries of design and technology. The organizer will select and announce the World’s Best projects at the SND Annual Workshop and Exhibition Awards Dinner in Fall 2018. Competition judges may issue Awards of Excellence, Silver Medals, Gold Medals and Best of Show honors.
