The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announce the call for entries for its 2018 Grants competition, for student and professional visual journalists.
Grants are awarded to help the production of projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant. Submissions must have a set of still photographs, but you may also submit other story forms — including audio, video, VR or any other visual format.
One grant of $20,000 for the production of a proposed project will be awarded in the Professional category. The first place winning undergraduate and graduate entrant in the Student category will both receive a grant that is equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University, plus a cash grant to help produce the proposed body of work.
Professional Grant
The professional Alexia Grant is offered to enable professional photographers and visual journalists to produce substantial bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.
Photographers and visual journalists from any country may apply for this Grant. Proposals for projects that have already received grants or awards of more than $10,100 in the previous calendar year are not eligible. The Grant is made to an individual photographer; project proposals that involve multiple content producers will not be accepted – unless you also submit a motion piece with your still images. You must be the primary creator on motion pieces but may have produced the piece with a small support team.
Deadline for submission is 1 February 2018 at midnight Eastern U.S. Time.
Student Grant
The Student Alexia Grant is offered to enable current college student photographers to produce substantial bodies of work that share the Foundation’s goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding.
Applicants must be actively pursuing a graduate, undergraduate or associate degree in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or internationally at the time of the student deadline. You may not apply if you have graduated as of the end of 2016.
Student applicants are encouraged to consider proposing projects close to where they are.
Deadline for submission is 1 March 2018 at midnight Eastern U.S. Time.
