The Meitar Award for Excellence in Photography, a collaboration between PHOTO IS:RAEL and the Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund, will be awarded for the fifth time this year to a photographer whose works demonstrate excellence in the field of photography. Following the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic, this year’s award process will feature a unique format that will adhere to the necessary restrictions without compromising its goal of supporting excellent photographers and the stories they tell, which are now more important than ever. This year’s winner will receive a $20,000 grant for the publication of a professional photography book through BLOW UP PRESS, a Warsaw-based boutique publishing house. The winner will be announced in November 2020, and the book will be published and launched in November 2021 at the 9th International Photography Festival. During the course of that year, the winner will work on the production of the book together with PHOTO IS:RAEL’s Chief Curator and BLOW UP PRESS’ Head Designer. The book will then be distributed through various professional platforms around the world.

OPEN Cycle and DT Swiss, two companies active in the bicycle industry, are organising the “Ready to paint” bicycle design competition. The purpose of this competition is to pick up on the current trend towards the individualisation of everyday objects such as bicycles and bicycle frames. The prizewinning motif will be used as the surface design for a limited edition of OPEN bicycle frames, DT Swiss wheelsets, bicycle jerseys and Artek chairs. Besides, a selection of the best submissions from the design contest will be published in a coffee table booklet. As the host of the competition, Vitra will provide the appropriate premises in which the best designs will be exhibited.

Smithsonian Magazine is calling for entries, for its 18th Annual Photo Contest, open to all photographers who are 18 years old or older. Award-winning photographs can range from a captivating portrait of a family member to a moon-drenched landscape to movement captured at just the right time. The Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw, in cooperation with Academy of Art in Szczecin and Dydo Gallery in Kraków, is hosting the FOR/AGAINST (ZA/PRZECIW) international poster competition for students and recent graduates. Create a poster showcasing an issue or a phenomenon that is important to you. Show the world what you believe brings a positive change or what you would like to criticise and improve. Your poster can show your support and appreciation for a cause but it can also be a protest. An international jury will select 50 best posters from all correctly submitted applications. The selected works will be presented during four post-competition exhibitions in Kraków, Szczecin, Olsztyn and Łódź in Poland.
