4th International FUTUWAWA Competition – Look at the Square

Fundacja Puszka has recently opened FUTUWAWA 2016: Look at the Square, their 4th international competition, this time, seeking for projects which present a vision of Parade Square in Warsaw.

The submitted proposals can concern a new form and function of the Square treated metaphorically, symbolically, as well as conceptually. The vision should be materialized through concrete solutions, e.g. architectural, urban planning, design, animation, temporary, or related to art in public space, urban furniture, green areas, water bodies, new technologies, etc.

One Jury Award of 7,000 Polish złoty and three Audience Awards of 1,000 Polish złoty each, will be awarded. In addition, in-kind prizes will be given to the winners in the following categories: Competition Jury Award, Competition Jury Honourable Mention and 3 awards decided by the public vote.

The topic is widely known in Warsaw. A new architectural project for the Museum of Modern Art and TR Warszawa Theatre, a longstanding debate on the development plan for the Square… Nevertheless, this discussion is not complete without talking about a vision for the Square and without answering some general (or even tricky) questions. What are the future functions for the Square? What is going to fill in its area? What are the specific rules for it?

FUTUWAWA is a two-staged competition. In the first part of the Competition, the Jury will select the most interesting projects for inclusion in an exhibition. During the second part of the Competition, the most interesting projects chosen by the Jury will be presented on Parade Square using Virtual Reality technology (9-11 September, 2016). After seeing the projects displayed on VR glasses, all Square users will choose their favorite projects. Voting together with online users, they will decide about the winners of three Audience Award.

Residents of Warsaw, architects, artists, students and everyone from around the world who would like to share their ideas for Parade Square is invited to take part in FUTUWAWA 2016.
