The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announce its 2019 Photography Competition for student and professional visual journalists.
The Alexia recognizes photographic bodies of work that may elevate understanding of the human condition, give light to what is not right and celebrate the best of humanity’s spirit.
The winner of the The Alexia Professional Grant will receive $20,000 to produce his or her proposed story. The first place winner of The Alexia Student Grant will receive a cash grant of $1,000 to produce the proposed story and funding for a semester at Syracuse University. The First Place grant is equivalent to a semester-long fellowship or residency at Syracuse University, taking three classes, working on projects and further developing skills with the support of a world-class faculty.
Up to four Award of Excellence winners will receive $500 each to produce a proposed body of work and $1,500 to be applied toward tuition at Syracuse University or tuition for one workshop.
Student eligibility has changed for the 2019 competition. Any student who is currently enrolled, or who graduated in May 2019 or is currently on an internship will be eligible to apply.
The Alexia Foundation promotes the power of photojournalism to give voice to social injustice, to respect history lest we forget it and to understand cultural difference as our strength – not our weakness.
Through grants, scholarships and special projects, The Alexia Foundation supports photographers as agents for change.
