The 2016 edition of the BASF design competition, themed “Design it. Love it. Live it” is now open for submission. Creative minds across the globe are invited to draw inspiration from BASF materials and submit innovative design ideas that address the complex challenges and opportunities of urban living. The competition total cash prize fund for 2016 is $35,000 (RMB) — that’s more than $5,300 US — of which $20,000 (RMB) are reserved for the Grand prize Winner, who will also be awarded a trip to visit designfabrik® in Germany.

Sub-Zero Group is currently accepting entries in their 2015-2016 Kitchen Design Contest, open to professional architects and students from around the world. The organizers are particularly interested in individual student applications. For this contest, the organizers will be awarding more than $110,000 in cash prizes and will invite the top 25 finalists to an all-expenses paid trip for two to the Best of the Best Winners’ Summit and Gala, where the 10 global winners will be announced. The event is scheduled for Summer/Fall 2017.

CarpetVista is currently accepting entries for its annual International Design Competition and seeking for fresh carpet designs from around the world. The aim of the competition is to design a carpet, for which CarpetVista will provide the production. The carpet will be hand-tufted or hand-woven using the highest quality materials. The winning designs will be produced in a limited edition and sold exclusively on CarpetVista. Three main prizes of a total of more than 3,000 Euro — of which 2,230 Euro are reserved for the 1st prize — will be awarded.

Registrations and submissions are now being accepted from all parts of the world for the Kokuyo Design Awards 2016 international competition, themed “How To Live“. Designs for items used in our everyday lives, such as stationery, furniture or household goods are eligible for submission. The best entry will be awarded with a Grand Prix of 2,000,000 Japanese yen — more than 16,000 Euro! Three Merit awards of 500,000 Japanese yen each, will also be announced.

Andreu World has recently launched their 16th annual International furniture Design Contest and registration is currently open for 2016. The competition is open to both design students and to professionals, without an age limit. Participants are invited to submit new designs for a wooden chair and/or table. The best design for 2016 will be awarded with 3,000 Euro and the second best, with 1,000 Euro. A maximum of four (4) non-monetary prizes — special mentions — will also be announced.

Van Alen Institute and AECOM have just launched Fair Share, the 2016 Urban SOS global student competition. The organizers are inviting multidisciplinary teams from around the world to apply the tools and principles of the “sharing economy” to tackle pressing urban challenges. Expert juries of global thought leaders in five cities around the world will select competition finalists. The winning team will receive US $7,500 and up to US $25,000 of in-kind support from AECOM to bring their project to life.

Art Moves is inviting all artists interested in billboard art, especially the young ones, to take part in the Festival’s 2016 international competition. Submitted art works are supposed to be creative responses to this year’s competition theme: Under pressure. How to be yourself in the contemporary oppressive world? The best ten (10) artworks selected by an international jury panel will be printed and exhibited in the urban space of the city of Torun, Poland in September/October 2016. The author of the most interesting work will receive the Main Award in the amount of 5,000 Polish złoty (about 1,139 Euro/$1,289 US).

Fado Design is hosting their second 3D printing design contest, this time for eyeglass frames based on innovative additive manufacturing in metal DMLS (Direct metal laser sintering) technology. The organizer’s purpose is to find talented, open-minded designers for cooperation and joint development of possibilities offered by 3D printing in DMLS technology. The best designs will be awarded with three jury awards. The 1st Place prize is 2,000 Euro. Three Audience awards will also be announced.

The Saint George Vadon Association announces the 3rd TransNatura International Nature Photo competition and opens application for 2016. TransNatura is open for photographs of natural habitats, made without disturbing the wildlife. On the photos only wild animals can be included and pictures taken of captive animals are not eligible. The two competition categories are: Open and The Art of flying. The organizes will award a total of 3,400 Euro to a Grand Prize winner and three category winners in each competition category. The Grand Prize — The TransNatura Award — includes 1,000 Euro. The award-winning pictures and other selected works will be exhibited on the 23rd of September 2016.

Persiceto Marmi, an Italian marble processing enterprise, in cooperation with Bologna’s Architects Professional Association, is hosting an international design contest for stone recycling. The B Side 2.0 is open to every creative mind that wants to confront with the issue of (stone manufacturing leftovers) recycling and smart use of resources, for both individual or team projects. A total of 10,000 Euro will be awarded in prizes, in two categories, to a total of six winners. Prize-winning designers and mentioned ones will be invited to participate to the award and presentation ceremony that will be held in Bologna, during the Bologna Design Week 2016.
