The GCA Network, initiated by the H&M Foundation, has announced the 2016 Global Change Award: Reinvention — an international fashion design competition for the next big ideas in the industry. The competition is an early stage innovation challenge aiming to close the loop for fashion, while taking on one of the biggest challenges facing today’s fashion industry – to create fashion for a growing population while reducing its impact on the environment. This year, five (5) winners will share a grant of 1 million Euro and get access to a tailor-made one-year Innovation Accelerator, provided by the H&M Foundation in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and Accenture.

The Fumetti in Treviso association announces the 5th International Contest for New Authors, which will be held as part of the Treviso Comic Book Festival 2016. The theme of the contest is “PUNK!” and the works must be stories that are in any way related to the punk movement, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and as such will be an integral part of the theme inspiring the next TCBF. The awards are offered by the Padova International School of Comics and consist of: 500 Euro for the first place; 300 Euro for the second place; 200 Euro for the third place.

Тhe Union of Moscow Architects and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan are hosting an architecture and urban planning competition for the regeneration of the Coastal Marine Industrial Area of Baku City. The competition seeks to discover ideas for conceptual solution demonstrating a contemporary and innovative approach to the complex development of the coastal territories in Baku with elements of public and tourist infrastructure. The organizers will award a total of $4,250 (US) to three prize winners. Of the total prize fund, $2,000 are reserved for the best solution and the winner of the 1st Prize. The 2nd Prize is $1,500 and the third, $750. Special prizes for individual achievements and appropriate solutions might also be awarded.

The Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau and Lanyang Cultural and Educational Foundation are hosting the 2016 Yilan Chair Design Competition and invite submissions from anyone interested in design. The theme for 2016 is “Children’s Chair” and the competition is dedicated to educative and entertaining chairs designed specifically for children aged between 4–12. Three main prizes – Gold, Silver and Bronze – and five Merit awards will be announced in September 2016. A total of NT$100,000 will be awarded in cash, together with certificates for the awarded individuals or teams.

The Verzasca FOTO Association is accepting entries for its Nera di Verzasca Award – photography competition and invites all amateur and professional photographers, older than 18, to participate. The competition theme is Open and both analogical (scanned from negative or slide) and digital images are allowed for submission. Photo stories with a minimum 3 and a maximum 10 photos should be submitted. One 1st place prize winner will be awarded 2,000 Swiss Francs, a solo exhibition, 1st September — 1st November, 2016 in Sonogno, Switzerland and will be invited to the 2016 Verzasca FOTO Festival.

Interference Foundation, the main organiser of the Interference Festival of Visual Communication Forms in Gdańsk, Poland, is pleased to open the competition “Freedom of Form”. The Competition is open for visual works in one of four main competition categories and it aims to recognise outstanding short visual productions, both commercial and non-commercial. A Grand Prix of 2,500 Polish złoty will be awarded in each of the main competition categories, together with an Audience Prize of 2,000 Polish złoty.

The H&M Design Award 2017 competition invites students in selected design schools around the world to enter, for a chance to start a successful career in Fashion. H&M’s ambition is to bring up the most promising talents in fashion and give them a springboard in their careers. The Grand Prize is 50,000 Euro and the winner will also get to develop key pieces from their collection to be sold at H&M.

Now in its 11th year, the Bucharest International Jazz Competition has opened the registration for 2017 and all jazz instrumentalists and vocalists, no older than 40, are invited to participate. The competition consists of three rounds of judging, during which the initial selection is made and, semi-finalists and winner are announced. Participants which qualify for the 2nd and 3rd rounds include will be required to perform live on several occasions. The total value of the prizes for 2017 is 7,000 Euro, of which 1,200 Euro are reserved for the Grand Prize Winner.

Fundacja Puszka has recently opened FUTUWAWA 2016: Look at the Square, their 4th international competition, this time, seeking for projects which present a vision of Parade Square in Warsaw. The submitted proposals can concern a new form and function of the Square treated metaphorically, symbolically, as well as conceptually. The vision should be materialized through concrete solutions, e.g. architectural, urban planning, design, animation, temporary, or related to art in public space, urban furniture, green areas, water bodies, new technologies, etc. One Jury Award of 7,000 Polish złoty and three Audience Awards of 1,000 Polish złoty each, will be awarded. In addition, in-kind prizes will be given to the winners in the following categories: Competition Jury Award, Competition Jury Honourable Mention and 3 awards decided by the public vote.

L’Officina and Studio Tommaseo of Trieste, with the Trieste Contemporanea Committee, have announced the Squeeze It Contest 2016. Young artists under the age of 30 are invited to create original projects, which are characterized by the dynamic interaction between the contemporary creativity of theater, the languages of the visual arts and of the new media. Тhe winner of the 2016 Franco Jesurun Award will be given the opportunity to collaborate with an internationally renowned video artist with whom he/she will realize a professional video work of the winning theatrical action. The video will premiere in Trieste and then will be screened in Europe through the international network of the organizers.
