National Portrait Gallery has just opened the Call for Entries for BP Portrait Award 2014, the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world.
Now in its thirty-fifth (35th) year at the National Portrait Gallery and twenty-fifth (25th) year of sponsorship by BP, the Competition for 2014 offers a first prize of £30,000, and a total prize fund of £61,000!
The Award is aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop portraiture in their work.
The competition is open to everyone aged 18 and over from around the world in recognition of the outstanding and innovative work currently being produced by artists of all ages working in portraiture.
Last year 1,969 artists from 78 different counties submitted their work and the exhibition, which featured fifty-five paintings, was seen by over 285,000 people at the National Portrait Gallery.
The BP Portrait Award 2014 exhibition will run at the Gallery from 26 June to 21 September 2014.
