Posterheroes 2023 – Beautifully Diverse

Posterheroes 2023 – Beautifully Diverse invites the creative community to promote a new representation of disability.

Posterheroes is an international contest about social communication that calls for posters (70×100 cm) about social and environmental issues.

You have the chance to win cash prizes, take part in many exhibitions and events and be featured in Posterheroes publications and editorial projects.

This year, Posterheroes is excited to introduce a new feature: the option to submit AI-generated images (out of competition) as a means of exploring innovative tools and techniques.

Be sure to check out the 2023 brief and find out all of the details about the theme.

In a world where inequalities are constantly increasing, strengthening cooperation and educating solidarity and empathy to recognize the value and dignity of each individual, regardless of ability or characteristics, is more important than ever. Through collective action, promoting a narrative of disability that is neither positive nor negative but a simple expression of the diversity that characterises humanity is therefore necessary.

It is time to transcend the normal and embrace the beauty of diversity.

Let’s build a society that celebrates the uniqueness of each individual, where everyone can be an active part of their community, and where resources and opportunities are accessible to all.

Let’s learn to look beyond our beliefs about productivity and the self-success myth. Let’s celebrate reciprocity and interdependence.

Let’s promote body positivity and encourage the representation of physical/ mental nonconformity.

Let’s move away from the rhetoric of “we are all the same”: let’s value a model of disability that embraces difference and challenges the concept of normality.

Not all disabilities are visible, and not all discriminations are explicit. Let’s learn to respect others, generate (self)awareness about stigma and prejudices, and create change.

Let’s spread the culture of diversity without idealising or romanticising it. Let’s promote new authentic narratives, free from stereotypes and pietist references. In a word, transformative.

Every year, Posterheroes invites students, professional designers, and everyone who is into graphic design to create a poster about topics of social interest. All the works are judged by a selection panel composed of some of the most relevant graphic design and visual communication experts that choses 40 winning posters.

Posterheroes, now in its twelfth edition, is promoted by Associazione Culturale Plug, Favini S.r.l., ITC-ILO and Fondazione Time2.
